The numbers
- Moose: up to about 6.9 ft at the shoulder, taller with antlers. That is about 2 times the height of a 5 ft 9 in person. Source: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
- Horse: about 5 ft at the shoulder (16 hands). That is about 1 times the height of a 5 ft 9 in person. Source: typical riding horse.
The 3D view draws each one at the size listed. Animals vary between individuals, and prehistoric sizes are estimates.
Moose are the largest members of the deer family. A big bull can stand close to 7 feet at the shoulder, so its back is higher than the top of most people’s heads before you count the antlers. Next to a typical riding horse at about 5 feet at the shoulder, the difference is easy to see.
Add an elephant or a giraffe from the panel to put the moose in a bigger lineup.
